That's a good start. Be persistent. A lot of those places are overwhelmed with calls. You need to keep knocking at the door. Your former military service may be of some benefit to you. Be sure to tell them you are a vet.

Just to add to what LB said - if you're able, try to make some visits to these places in person. It's generally more difficult to turn away a face than an anonymous voice over the phone. The squeaky wheel and all that.

geez, I've written several replies Dean and each one sounds like an excuse, too negative.. my calculations have to include mom.. I will work on it... I do not have a quick concept... I can think of all my near neighbors to ask.. haven't imposed but am willing to ask them for that couple hour here an there time... and I agree.. my old dress shoes squeak, i'll polish them up..

A lot of the pro bono organizations prioritize the potential clients, usually on the basis of income, but some will also give preference to things like race, gender and other characteristics. Military service can be one of the considerations. If you have to take care of your mother, bring that up too. In fact, bring her with you if she is up to the trip. Be aware that some places focus on single mothers and will turn you away immediately. don't let that get you down. Again, a support group for single fathers would be able to help guide you in the right direction.
