We finally got our Christmas tree last night. It's an 8 to 9 foot, Noble Fir. It's laying in the drive way right now. Andy was going to wash it down with the hose before bringing it in and setting it up, but it's too cold. It was 29* here at 7 AM. Cold for us.

I don't know Dean. When you describe yourself and your behavior, you might not have had time in purgatory, you might have gone straight to the
At least it's warm and I won't have to make new friends.

You know, that's the second time this week I hear about people washing their tree.

One was due to allergies..... ....... I had never heard of this.

Why do you wash your tree?

Because, if you look at it, it's got dead needles, dirt and sawdust on it. The trees are cut down in Oregon, and shipped here. They get dirty.

Lainey, I think the church annulment process belongs in the dark ages along with a lot of the poopy rules/regulations, etc. It was quite enlightening to me when I read Ethics for the New Milleneum written by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He stresses in the beginning that this is not a religious book, but he simply argues that a combination of our instinct for survival and our common sense, if properly attended and refined by human reason, will lead us to an increased capacity for compassion, and compassion will buttress an ethical understanding and moral practice. It is also important to me to know that most of the church's (and I refer to ALL churches, not just one) rules/regs, etc. are handed down by people who wrote them and not a spiritual being, therefore, they are simply the workings of folks who probably had their own self-interests at heart.

I could write a book, but though fact, would have to be written as fiction since no one would believe it.

There's another spin the "instinct for survival and common sense" part, though, that we should acknowledge. All of these rules and so on (at least those from the longstanding belief systems) are those that, in the sense of maintaining a society, work. From the perspective of social evolution, they've proven themselves fit.
A very good book on the subject of cultural history and human behavior from an anthropological perspective is, "Cows, Pigs, Wars, and Witches: The Riddles of Culture" by Marvin Harris. If you're interested in that sort of thing and haven't read the book, it's a very good read.
