I'm with ya on this -- but, at least around meal time, I'll need to opt out of the sacrificial rituals, if it's OK. HPH
But we're having a big get together with some Gallic virgins down at the peat bog.

An interesting editorial about all of this fuss over Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays in today's New York Times. I think the advocates of using Merry Christmas as opposed to Happy Holidays might be a bit surprised.

YOU CAN'T STEAL
MY CHRISTMAS

Poem by Sharon Steege

I don't know who they are
Saying I can't greet the crowd
The way that I want to
Can't say CHRISTMAS out loud.

I walk into a business place
See things that I rather not see
But dare I not say CHRISTMAS
And ask for a "holiday" tree.

What happened to freedom of speech
And living in the land of the free
How can they take my CHRISTMAS money
But can't say MERRY CHRISTMAS to me.

Men and women have given their lives
So we could still go free
I wonder how they would feel
At saying "HOLIDAY" TREE.

Come on AMERICA let's wake up
Don't let our freedom escape
If they get by with doing this
What else will they take.

This is starting to get out of hand,
And I've begun to keep track
Well I've just about had enough
I'M TAKING CHRISTMAS BACK.

So MERRY CHRISTMAS AMERICA
I hope this gets all over the net
If we all stand united and take freedom back
'Twill be our best CHRISTMAS YET!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY

As most of you know, I am way left of center. Nevertheless, I feel that it's completely OK to say Merry Christmas to Christian friends and to talk to anyone about My Christmas Tree.

OTOH, it's just POLITE when there are people of other faiths (or unknown faith) involved.....to use the PC term Holiday. e.g., a larger diverse office should be having a Holiday Party although there may be a Christmas Tree in the corner and both Chanukah songs and Christmas carols may be sung.

EDIT: After my post, I noticed the Google banner at the bottom of the screen for www.chrismukkah.com Have not checked it out, but I think the American spirit of entrepreneurship is alive and well....

I agree. With the stores putting up Christmas decorations the day after Halloween, it's hard to escape it, if you wish to.

Those who celebrate Christmas often forget that others celebrate different holidays.
If you went to Catholic school, we pretty much were taught that we were correct in our beliefs and everyone else was WRONG!

Now there's a topic for a thread. Things you learned in Catholic school that were total hogwash.

First we start with the issue of patent leather shoes

Lainey, I think that depends upon the Catholic school you attended, the group and individuals running it, and the time you attended. Personally, I went to Catholic grade school from the mid 60s to the early 70s and looking backward, it was fairly progressive. At no time, ever, did anyone imply that people of other faiths were wrong. In fact, I remember discussions on the subject.
