Rob, I was just notified yesterday that my health insurance premiums are going from $1,211 to $1,476 per month, a 21% increase. Just for me and the +1. I wish I could tell them where to shove it, but can't afford the risk. Bastards.
I wonder how much of this increase is due to the new health insurance legislation, now having to cover kids to 26, ignore preexisting conditions etc etc. Thanks Mr. President. I thought I was supposed to SAVE money.
I can't answer you, but I suspect that there would have been a substantial increase even if the new healthcare bill hadn't passed.

^Dean, I hope you have some premium coverage there. That's expensive!

I have a sneaking suspicion there's a fair amount of strike while the iron is hot going on.
A lot of companies have taken advantage of the distraction of the health care bill to jump and readjust things.
Both my employer and my wife's made huge changes in their health plans this year.

a neighbor is the HR VP at a large company, they just switched to a HSA based plan.
he's rushing to get his knee reworked this year before the new plan kicks in when he'll face a big out of pocket expense.

We spend more on our hobbies than any insurance, even when they are all combined. So, for now, I've no complaints.

Let's put it this way. Because I fear what will be next in the world of health plans and rising deductibles, I've signed on a bit early for a colonoscopy. It will be done soon and the doc assures me it will be covered.

If they (health insurance companies) are going to (excuse the expression) shove it up my ____ I may as well take advantage of them and have this test when I've already met my deductible for this year.

I think it depends Rob. In states that already had a lot of the new federal provisions there is not much change. Here in Mass, people are seeing a 3 to 4% increase.

I'm trying to get mine done this year.
I don't want to get stuffed twice. once by the doc and once by the insurance company.

Kind of a sorry state of affairs when you sign up early for that test.

In talking with my health insurance agent he attributed the rise in our coverage directly to the new healthcare program. I am leaning towards the insurance companies saw an opening to raise their premiums and they jumped on it. The problem is we have no options. With a $40,000 ankle surgery in August and another one in January what choice do I have but to pay the premium and move on. Bottom line, that increase is passed on to our customers.
