Editing Corner

OK, you forced me to do it. Here's one from Matt on the 'Relocation Places' thread....
We are planning on taking the wondering route.
Now, he COULD mean the 'wondering route'....as a play on words....but I believe that Matt meant the 'wandering route'

On an even more esoteric note, something that burns my toast is when people confuse "compose" and "comprise".

But I'll just have to deal with burnt toast, I guess. Can't expect the little people to be up on such esoterica. HPH

You guys'll love this article by William Safire of the NY Times. Safire writes about language. My mom is the woman mentioned in the "Went with the Wind" section of this... http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/11/magazine...wln_safire.html

"would have went..." That kind of misuse really bugs her. Me too. Apparently, Safire agrees!

Like Mother, like Son And where is LB on this query?

"I would have wished nothing better, that, when the subpoenas were issued in August 2004, witnesses testified then. . . .No one would have went to jail."
....and Ms Chazmo opines:

"Really, is this the way an educated attorney speaks?" demands Eve Suffin, of Holden, Mass.

I will confess that one of my vices is watching sporting events on TV, and many of the better color commentators now are ex-jocks.

These guys try, but they have lots of trouble with their past tenses and plurals. It's actually pretty pathetic, even for jocks. HPH

As if "would have went" is not bad enough, I have to listen to "would OF went" on a regular basis at work. Speaking of commentators, has anyone here ever listened to the Nascar commentators on the FOX network? OMG!

Why pick on the NASCAR commentators? None of the commentators on the Fox network make any sense, even the commentators who speak properly.

Well, I am happy that I could please someone here on S2ki.com

P.S. It seems that my careless typing and spelling comes in handy sometimes, at least this time no one can call me a thread killer on this thread.
