Marietta Memorial Meet 2021 - From Marietta to Morristown in one day!
Mark those calendars, save the date and all those other things you do to remember the fun things in life, that's right, it's Marietta Memorial Meet 2021, June 17-20. A lighthearted romp through southern Ohio, lots of great friends and outstanding food, and amazingly fun to drive roads. Yeah, Route 26 and Route 555 will still be in the mix, but we've added new roads to up your driving fun quotient Enough with an intro, here's the real reason for all of this folderol.
It's a celebration of Maury Frankel and a friend gone way too soon. Marietta Memorial Meet 2021 is in memory of Maury Frankel a warm hearted, affable, all around great person with a wonderful sense of humor. (I'll probably come up with a new name before next year but this one has to do for now. Got a suggestion? Post it (but keep it on the clean side please))This meet is very special to many of us as it combines two of the best thing about S2000 ownership:
Friendship: Maury was a friend to everyone he met. I'd like to think that feeling will continued throughout life's twists and turns and will help to bring a bit of light to everyone.
The Drive: The roads of southern Ohio are full of twisties and elevation changes; perfect for the S2000. We will drive through backcountry areas with rivers, forests, farms and covered bridges and also a bit of small town America. The drive starts with the drive to lunch at Pike 40 in Morristown. We'll be driving some new to us roads to get you prepared for the afternoon's fun. That fun is Route 26 from Morristown to Marietta. This is a spectacular rollercoaster of a road and you get to see it from a different perspective. The drive takes about 4 hours. If you like a bit of challenge for your car and yourself, Route 26 won't disappoint.
Great People, Great Car, Great Time!
The Hotel Information:
Hampton Inn Marietta
508 Pike Street
Marietta, OH 45750
Phone: (740) 373-5353
Rate: $99/night
Group Code:
The Tentative Itinerary:
Thursday: The Early Arrival relaxation day: Hang out, relax, take life easy. Prepare for the upcoming fun. There will probably be a totally disorganized dinner around 6:00 pm somewhere that you can join in or you can just stay in, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Friday: 6:00 pm - Dinner out: Not really a formal part of the meet but it seems to have become a tradition. We'll meet in the hotel lobby at 5:45 pm for the drive to a surprise restaurant. Good food is even better with great company.
Saturday: 9:00 am - The Maury Memorial Run. There will be at least two groups for the drive, a somewhat spirited group and a more sedate group. Select the group you'd like to be in and come along to lunch at Pike 40 in Morristown, OH. Relax, check the scenery, maybe hang out for a bit and then get ready for the return drive down Route 26. You will arrive at the Hampton Inn in plenty of time to get ready for the Saturday night dinner.
Saturday 6:00 pm - Buckley House for Dinner. An amazing restaurant with generous portions, a large selection of great food and an amazing wine list. We'll meet in the lobby at 5:30 pm for the drive to the restaurant. Make sure you bring your appetite. Mike, one of my favorite servers will be there to help, insult, and in general take csre of us. It's worth going just to hang out with him.
Sunday: The day for loading the car, looking back on all the fun you've had, the great conversations, the new friends you've made and then heading home. I hope you've enjoyed yourself and that we'll see you for Marietta Memorial Drive 2022 - The Rt. 555 Drive. Until then, please drive carefully.
Registration is free and is available here starting March 20. See you in Marietta

^10-7-2006. Maury, who I'd never met before, came up to me at Gettysburg and asked if I'd get ready to take some pictures of him. I had no idea what he was up to. Meet Maury! Little did we know how much we'd all love him.
^10-7-2006.
^10-7-2006.
^5-5-2007.
^5-9-2009.
^6-20-2009. Maury at the Tomcatt. He made me drive this car.
^5-22-2010.
^5-18-2012.
^5-2-2008. Ken and Yoon-he.
^5-13-2011. Spring Fling.
^6-17-2011. Ken at the "It's Not the tomcatt" he put on.
I so loved Maury. When I adopted my last shelter cat I was trying to come up with a name. "Maury" popped into my head. My kitten, who will be two in August, is a love and mischievous just like Maury the person.
^10-28-2019, the month I brought Maury home. He liked to lick my eyes and nostrils. Such a nut case.

Except for the old dude in the middle, those are great pictures. I think for a permanent name this will probably be the "Maury Memorial Marietta Meet". So what's the consensus on that name? (oh and as an aside, Paul F., Sam and I have been putting on the Tomcatt for the last three years. I've met some great people and I hope to meet even more great people this year forward).

^ Seems like a great name for an event and it will eliminate any confusion. Both will be great events to look forward to.

We likely would not be attending, but I just thought I would throw it out there that I like the name.
My husband thinks it is a "mouthful."
And, I think everybody should get a great big bag of M&M's.
Just my .02, for whatever it is worth.

Maury died on 2-22-2013. That's more than 8 years ago. Now, we name a meet in his honor? My opinion is it should be the Marietta Meet.
