Living To 80 (Joke / comment)
I recently picked a new primary care physician. After two visits
and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing "fairly well" for my age.
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him,
"Do you think I'll live to be 80?"
He asked,"Well, do you smoke tobacco or drink beer?"
"Oh no," I replied. "I've never done either."
Then he asked, "Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?
"I said "No, I've heard that all red meat is very unhealthy!"
"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf?"
"No, I don't".
He said, "Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or fool around with sexy
women?"
"No," I said. "I've never done any of those things."
He looked at me and said, "Then why do you give a shit if you live
to be 80?"
While this is a joke the more I thought about it the more interesting the proposition. I do enjoy 25 year old scotch, going to Vegas, love my S (I do drive to fast), love red meat, etc. I just wonder what you see as the balance between vices and good health / long life. Or do you just take the attitued that it could be a "blue ice" day and I should enjoy what I can when I can?

If living as described above buys me another 5 years, forget it. I'd rather squeeze the later in and go with many great memories. "Its not the destination, it's the journey that memories are made of."

It seems that balance always puts me in a quandry.

The will to live is as important as the physical ability to continue. How many of you knew an older couple who died a few months apart? I personally will never regret living and enjoying the good things, such as a good woman, a great meal, a fast car and a few drinks! A good friend often says
