Not just cars. Almost everything electronic and/or consumer made in the last few years. China/Taiwan use the same shape in almost all their screws. 3 sizes of the Vessel drivers do very well.

Technically they are called Japanese Industrial Screwdrivers or JIS.
The screws have a dot on the head and have a much shallower angle for the slots.
A standard Philips have a much steeper angle and don't get the same contact area.
Typically a Philips will simply strip out the head of a JIS screw.
