Rob, I hope the rest of the summer is better for you. Made for good reading.

"Pigs" is an excellent name for those people who soar past ignoring all the signs saying a lane is ending and then squeeze in front of the miles of people who chose to drive along waiting their turn. Great read.

In Galveston there is an extension of the Texas State Highway system that includes a toll-free ferry across Galveston Bay to Boliver Peninsula. For over a mile on the approach before the ferry there are posted signs stating that line jumpers will be fined $250. And it is strictly enforced by the DPS. Hardly any lane jumpers seen there at all.

I like that idea, Jim. Another one is to put those rubber stick things along the lane divider, or even build a more concrete one, so after a certain point (a mile before??) vehicles can't cross over. Wonder why they don't do that?

I'm sorry that experience spoiled your trip, Rob. And sorry about your mom, too. It sounds as if she is still aware enough to know you and be unhappy that she is there. I remember Auntie hating me for about six months when I put her in assisted living. She adapted (which is a good thing, since she was there for nine years!) but a different set of circumstances from your mom. Say hello to Liz, Adam and Andrew for me.

Rob,

I can relate very well to your story, as I'm sure most of us can. Lane jumpers and left-lane cruisers are my two pet peeves. I really like the idea of fines as Jim mentioned.

By the way, good to see you posting again. I wondered where you'd been.

Yeh, lane jumpers are an unnecessary source of driving stress.
Rob, good to hear from you again. However, you did provide me vivid reminder why my first drive into and through New York also was my last one.

Good to hear from you. Sorry about the frustration. That's the last thing we need at this stage of the game. Give my love to the family.
