Just got back from Honda and am happy to report no damage other than cosmetic.

I'll take it over to their body shop in the next day or so and get an estimate. In the meantime, the little plug for the bumper has gone AWOL. Guess the impact made it loose.

Thanks for the sympathy, y'all. Everyone who looks at the bumper thinks I'm nutty for wanting to get it fixed...glad there's some other nuts who understand!

Sorry to hear what happened. How bad is the damage? If it's just the bumper, you're in luck! A new one costs only $280, painting (depending who you take it to) costs anywhere from $90-$200. I say don't claim insurance!!! If you can't get it at those prices, PM me your address, I can have the part painted and shipped to you cheap!

It's a mixed blessing to have better brakes than other cars / trucks on the road. You can avoid rear ending someone who doesn't signal, is under alien mind control (e.g., makes driving decisions that have no rational basis), etc., but you may well get rear-ended by the driver(s) behind you.

I had this problem with my last car (Audi A6 4.2) which had unbelievable brakes or a 2-ton+ car. Had to stop to avoid rear-ending the car in front of me (chain reaction braking at a green light, believe it or not) and ended up getting rear-ended by a black Saab, which in turn was rear-ended by another black Saab (what are the odds of that?).

As Jeff Cooper reminds us, always "check your 6" (the 6 o'clock position, i.e., directly behind you), the driver behind you probably cannot stop as fast as you can.

Glad no one was hurt in the accident and it was just cosmetic damage.

I just got rear ended this weekend. I wasn't even braking and someone just came out of nowhere and hit my bumper while I was driving 35 mph on a country road. Not sure what the guy was doing, but it's a real downer. Not sure what kind of structural damage, if any. Had to go to the hospital because of whiplash...

^ Bummer...hope you and the car survive OK! As I said to Julie, always have the car checked out thoroughly, even if it seems to be minor damage. One member out here thought it was minor and the frame was bent. Turned it into major in a hurry! Good luck...
