I've always believed that jewelry is an art and it's the thought in selecting something for someone special that really gives it value. Jewelry is worn close. It's personal and it touches you.

It is an expression of love.

BTW, what did the jeweler say about Sam's to change your mind? Or did you just like their ring better?
He gave me some BS about Sam's mountings not be able to hold up when she was horseback riding. Sadly I half bought it. That, and I knew he could size it before dinner! When you get down to two or three hours before crunch time, you just go with flow - whatever is fastest.

Later when I told +1 about the riding comment, she said "Are you stupid, I don't wear my rings riding." Yep, Davie be stupid. But she's told me a dozen times it was a nice surprise, so I guess I'm not too stupid. And, I can rattle off the 4 C's, just like most women now - carat, cut, color, and clarity.

Don't you mean needless markup?

Yes, yes that's exactly the place.

Nope, haven't had the opportunity yet but I'm sure I'll get my chance New Years Eve. Really, shouldn't be any problem.

I don't know wear my head was when I wrote where. This aging sucks.

Good on the four Cs - I'm sure your wife loved your present. I wear two rings that Auntie gave me and never take them off. I've had one since I graduated from HS - a sapphire surrounded by diamonds. The other was her engagement ring and is a lovely European cut diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds - from 1939. That's pretty much all the jewelry I wear, except for earrings. So the +1 really can't buy me much. If/when we do get married (I know, I know...), I plan to have him buy an estate diamond wedding band to match the engagement ring. Hope I can find one I like. I have Auntie's, but the diamonds are too small and it would be hard to resize it. We picked out wedding bands quite awhile ago, but now I want an antique one instead.
