I get them all the time, but being a CPA they want me to attend, then send them clients. They are definitely NOT like the time-share pitches which are high pressure. You might even learn something.
A response a friend of mine uses at the time-share pitches is that he stays at very high-end places and the XYZResort they are selling just doesn't measure up. What can they say?

I think they show up every 3 or 4 weeks from one source or another.
they usually wind up in the shredder.
there are services out there which do social profiling based on where you live, what cars are registered in your name and what stocks you hold etc.
it's all public information and they mine it carefully.
they probably know more about you than you do.
and no I'm not paranoid.

I get them but don't go. I would not accept such an offer just to get a free meal, and I would have a hard time accepting the offer and then not giving the person some business. Just the way I am.

I get invitations from my investment advisor to go to company dinners. They are at a high-end steakhouse, usually, and there is a brief talk after the dinner. Sometimes I go, sometimes I don't. Now that the +1 has moved his investments to my guy, we may go together more often.
I also get invitations from other investment companies soliciting my business by inviting me to seminars or whatever. Those go into the trash.

I don't think I've ever received one. I have my investments and cash in places that don't share my info.
