I'm thinking of how hard boys can throw a ball and how soft some girls are. I loved it in grammar school but I was always a tomboy.
Apparently, you've never been beaned in the head by a girl throwing a fast pitch softball before.

I think that boys & girls should compete against other (just not as boys vs. girls).

That's why I use a ton of these little guys.
I've seen a lot of very mean-spirited things hidden behind smiles, both on the internet and in person.

No but I was on a softball coed team when I was pregnant with my first. After I got slamed into and knocked to the ground by a runner, I quit the team.

My counterpoint would be this...isn't school about preparing our children for the real world (in a semi-controlled environment)? As such, what sort of "problems" would be inappropriate enough to justify banning something?

As a parent, I would be up in arms if my kids had recess cancelled (taking it to the extreme, I know) because the district was worried about being sued or making the children feel bad if they lost a game or contest...

You are right. But I only use smileys for good, never evil.

And many children's games are vicious, cutthroat games of dominance and brutality. That's just human nature. Banning them isn't going to change that, but if "tag" was causing problems then why not ban it at school? Just because you played it as a kid doesn't mean it was innately innocuous or appropriate for school hours.
I don't know if "tag" was causing problems or not. Sometimes it just appears that we are trying to insulate kids from too much. No tag at school, but we let them play organized sports which can be pretty brutal physically and emotionally from what I've seen on the Little League field across the street from my house. There's bad stuff in everything, every sport, every activity. Maybe a better job is needed at monitoring things before we ban it.

Maybe not in your house but we all knew who ran ours. And, personally speaking, we need more of that; not less. This idea of kids being in charge is bull IMHO.

If you are looking for the perfect world, I can see why you spend so much time on the mountain top. (slap my mouth). Just poking fun.

Seriously, I think the sooner kids deal with handling life's issues the better off they are. This protective cacoon does not help them to grow up.
