The Inaugural Ball

Not to argue with your otherwise excellent history, but I thought that Ronald and Nancy Reagan, prior to Clinton, returned the Inaugural Ball to extravagance following Carter's low key parties. Clinton, as I recall, had more, but Reagan's were show stoppers.

Yes whether you agreed with Reagan or not. He was a class act. I used to have an 8 track tape of Orson Wells doing a parody reading on Richard Nixon.
Included in it was a tongue and cheek reference to Ronald Reagan being elected President. A few years later he was.
Anyone else remember that recording?

I thought that Reagan's were the glitziest of all the Inaugural Balls. When it came to showmanship, Ronnie and Nancy had no equals.

I think they would be particularly sensitive to public perceptions now that the search for WMDs has been officially ended. I won't tell you the findings so as not to spoil the surprise.

I don't usually participate in political discussions, but I'll make an exception on this one. I've never understood why they (any party) feel the need to pi$$ away money on these things, as well as Democratic/Republican conventions, when the candidate is already a "shoe in."
These parties don't pass the "spending test" many of us have to use before spending money. 1. Do I need it? 2. Do I HAVE to have it? 3. Can I live without it? A little Yankee fiscal responsibility/cheapness might be a good idea here.
There are way better uses for this money. One thought: fix the health care system, NOW so when we finally get to retire we won't have to spend $1000.00 a month to insure ourselves.

One of my great regrets in life was not going to Berlin for the Wall party.
"Mr Gorbacheff Tear Down That Wall."
That ranks right up there with "Four Score and Seven Years Ago" or "Remember the Maine"
Then there's always "I Am Not A Crook" or " I Didn't Have Sex With That Woman"

I didn't say class, I said glitz.

Your partisanship is showing.

My Mother felt really honored... like I said RR was a class act.
