Bar Harbor is definitely a tourist trap IMHO.
If heading that way, we wait until September until most of the tourists are gone. We've also stayed and dined in Northeast Harbor, just a few miles away and less $$$ than right in Bar Harbor.

It's been a while since we've been that way though.

About 10 years ago moved from TX to MN for a job. Great area and people but, I cannot stand cold weather. Moved back to TX 6 years ago. The 50's today is cold enough for me. Still able to get in 18 though.

This is why I like living in the south. Well, Southern California, anyway. I drove 60 miles to the Santa Monica Pier on Dec. 30th just for a destination.

My daughter lives near Santa Monica. She taunts me with pix all the time, especially when she knows we have colder weather or rain.

Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. Guess I should've bought a wood stove, but won't admit it to her. God I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room.
Great post Wild. Our plan is to become the perverbial "snow birds", keep our house in Pittsburgh, but head South for the winter months. It seems the older we get the colder it gets.

Yeah, we southern Californians have to do that. It's in our mean little hearts. Actually, I'm torn between our good weather, but the nicer people in other areas, not of So Cal.

Ha. Meanwhile, in the Boston area, the average temp for December was in the 50s. This week it is supposed to get back up to the 60s. We really haven't had any snow to speak of.

^ Crazy, isn't it? I'm sure the proverbial other shoe is about to drop before long, though.
