If you ever wondered why there is a Vintage Forum

I read through some of the posts on this thread -- obviously most of them are very young kids who were given a great deal by well-meaning parents. I remember as a teen being rather unhappy with my parents because they were not free-spending and I had to work for my keep. I always swore that my kids wouldn't have to do this/that/etc. and I would give them "things." To a degree I did and it would break my heart if my kids were saying some of the things about deserving all the "toys" just because they got good grades, etc. The good grades, etc. are not for the benefit of the parents, but for the kids' own benefit. Alas, I'll not point an accusatory finger at any of them, though. I remember being a teen and I remember the brash statements that would come from my mouth. These guys and gals will grow up one day and realize the value of what they have and what has been given them. As parents we need to first and foremost teach compassion, self-regulation, self-respect and respect for the needs of others. I'm delighted we have the vintage forum and I'm further delighted that the younger set has a forum to vent as well.

What's the matter with kids today?
Why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way?

Kids! And they'll still just do what they want to do.
Why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way?

That was a LONG thread...and unfortunately, I read the whole thing before Bill's Cliff Notes (loved those, BTW) made it into the first post. It was a very interesting combination of funny and mind boggling. One of my fave things was Morris' first line..."I was only 51 when I bought my S."
