Amy and I was the next to last to leave (Matt and Lauren were still there). After stopping at an antique shop east of Staunton, we found US 33 and made it a lazy day of driving (until US 50).
Made it to Amy house, in Columbus, at 7:15.
Sad to see we had an oops on Saturday. But I'm relieved no one was hurt.
We made it home around 15:00. Because I really dislike the truck drag races on I-81, that cause the two lane Interstate to drop traffic down to 50 something MPH in a 70 speed limit zone, we got off on RT211 and stopped at Luray Caverns. As neither of us had ever visited one of the largest cavern in North America before. It is quite an experience walking one and quarter miles through the cavern.
Interesting that in 1954 a geologist from Springfield, VA created what is billed as the world's largest musical instrument. He used a rubber mallet to find stalagmites that were tuned to a concert pitch. He then built a system that taps those with a rubber mallet from an organ keyboard.

"largest cavern in North America " according to the Luray cavern folks.
In fact they don't even make the top 10.
That maybe true! But, one thing is certain this place is a "gold mine". According to one of the guides in the summer they get over 3,000 visitors a day. The adult tickets are $34, seniors $32 and kids (6-12) are $17.
