I cried when my 2007 Laguna Blue baby got hammered with hail in Colorado Springs last summer. It sure looks great now. I had no choice except to insist on the shop I knew would do the best job.

Looks beautiful now. My favorite color. My 16 BMW 228ix is called Estoril blue but it is very close to Laguna. I had this happen to my 79 Accord. got it repainted and it looked new again.

I chose a body shop that was just a few miles from home and on my normal ElliptiGO riding route. That made it easy to drop in once or twice a week and see what the progress was.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not going to respray the entire car. The first body shop I took it to this morning gave me an estimate of $1300. I showed him the damage to the hood and told him I also wanted the front bumper done. Then I asked him to look at the driver's door and tell me if he sees anything wrong. He couldn't find my dent repair. I pointed it out to him and he said, "oh, I see it now." After looking at it, he recommended leaving it alone as it was very difficult to see. So his estimate is for the hood ($826) and the bumper ($468) so that I can parse this out with the person who was driving at the time.

The work includes blending the paint into the front fenders. This process minimizes the chances of a noticeable difference in the color of the resprayed panels and the rest of the car. I've asked several body men over the years if there is any way to just spray the panel that is damaged and they have all told me that the resprayed panel will stick out not matter how well you match the paint.

I'm going to another shop tomorrow for a second estimate. It will be interesting to hear what they think about the door.

Bill,

Have you thought about a clear bra after the respray? I have an Xpel clear bra on my 08. I never worry about the paint. It is also on the headlights and back of mirrors. I am very happy I did it. I never stress about the paint now.

I you want to see it I live near Fenway.

^Great suggestion! I clear braed the entire hood, front of the front fenders, front bumper, headlights and mirror backs, after my repairs, too.

That's a good idea. I toyed with it when I first bought the car, but didn't do it (obviously). Maybe it's time...

Patty thanks for the photos of your car. I would be so depressed at that amount of damage. Did the insurance company want to total the car?

They didn't try to total it. It was low enough mileage that it was still worth more than the cost to fix it. It was hard to see the car in the shop but I kept going by so the guys knew I was a tad anal.
