Your body will compress a little, and your butt will slide forward in the seat a bit. Also, depending on the impact, you will be thrown forward at the torso, and as your head goes toward the steering wheel there is some additional clearance. Particularly if the airbag doesn't blow.
I suppose, depending on your build, the top of your noggin will still be exposed to some danger. It's something to think about.

I was most impressed by the fact that the windshield frame deforms in the middle to form front roll bars. And there can be some risk of damage to your head. I sit taller than the roll bars and I did tap my head when I rolled over. Fortunately it was soft grass and not pavement.

That probably is why your head hit...if the ground was soft the rollbars would dig into the ground. On hard pavement they would not have dug in....
