Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey
Hitting Texas pretty hard as a catagory 4 storm. That exceeds the winds in Katrina. Looks like a very, very wet weekend in south Texas as Harvey loops around and heads back toward where it first made landfall. Houston and San Antonio may see serious flooding, with worse flooding to the south.
Anyone heard from Jim? Any of the rest of you in the area? If so, please stay safe and alert.

Jim posted in the Weather thread that he would keep us posted. It looks really, really bad. Shocking how much rain is going to fall down there over the next several days. Not sure who else is in that area, but Granny is from San Antonio and has relatives there. Also, my ex MIL lives there with her daughter and family. She's 101. So I need to contact Granny and my ex and check on what is happening.

Logged in this morning to post my hope that everyone in the path of this storm is and will be safe. We weathered a Cat 1 (Matthew) last year and I swore NEVER AGAIN. I cannot imagine what a Cat 4 will do. Hope Tx Jim and his family are good. The landscape here was changed tremendously when Matthew came through and many people still haven't recovered completely. My thoughts are with Texas!

With Allison, the storm just sat here for days and dumped buckets of water. Many houses on our street were completely flooded; the water was up to our front door.
So far now we are getting lots of rain, but the worst is apparently yet to come. No real flooding yet. People are staying inside, waiting... My little dog, Tara, is, with age, increasingly afraid of the thunder. I had to get some Benadryl to keep her from shaking.
I'll post pics later when the Hochwasser arrives...

There are deep drainage bayous running thru Houston. They will no doubt overflow their banks and flood major sections of the city. Houston is only about 50 feet above sea level. The city is close to the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou, and many areas of the city are in direct flood plains.
