Not typical though. That is silly BAT crazy bidder pricing and usually on very low mileage cars. I would use something like Hagerty to find realistic values based upon condition honestly.

 

As far as I'm concerned bringatrailer is a reasonable arms length assessment of replacement cost.

 

Agreed. The market knows, and BaT is a very efficient market. Winning bids tend to pretty much reflect high wholesale-low retail valuations with plenty of comps to accommodate all but the highest mileage or rattiest S2000.

Of course there are very low mileage outliers and the occasional CR to distort the averages. Both often produce crazy results when two or more gotta-have-it bidders duke it out. But all in all BaT is probably far more accurate than a look-see on cargurus or down the street at Ed's Clean Used Sportscars, because every BaT auction gets plenty of looks by knowledgeable dealers and prospective owners.
