I live in Phoenix - need I say more? OK Ok I will say more. About two weeks ago, we had a heat wave that blew records out of the water. The weirdest record was that we went 8 days where the temperature did not drop below 90 degrees. We also had a rash of high temp records broken with temperatures of 114, 115, 116 - maybe even a 117. We do have a swimming pool, but this time of year the pool is about 90 degrees. We actually have to cool our pool - evaporative cooling - water from the pool is sprayed across the top of the pool. That is the only thing that keeps the temperature below 90. The first year we lived here, we didn't know about it and the pool temp got up to 96 degrees.
What is it like when you have temperatures like that - walking out the front door is like opening the oven door and inserting your whole body. The inside of your car is 150 - 160 degrees if it has been sitting in the sun. Everyone uses sun shades in their windows. The steering wheel is so hot you can't grasp it. You see people driving around with oven mitts on - and no I am not making that up.
This time of year, the S doesn't have enough insulation in the roof, so I rarely drive it in the summer. On the other hand, it is awesome driving around October through April with the top down.
We do have a second home in Payson at about 5100 feet. It does get to 100 there, but cools off nicely at night.
The special thing about this time of year is that it is monsoon season right now. We get amazing lightning displays and rain storms - especially in Payson

It was so hot that I didn't have to light the BBQ to cook my steaks.
It was so hot that when I went to water the garden, all that came out was steam.
It was so hot that the corn on the cob came already popped.
Seriously, this summer has shown us in Calgary the most really hot days that memory can recall. But knowing that -35* temps are but only a few months away, not many people here are complaining. But then, I did an S2000 drive through Vegas and Death Valley in May, so the hot days here seemed like a relief.

My bro from Mesa was here - he can confirm the very hot weather out in the Phoenix area. Just awful.

It never ceases to amaze me how Labor day ends summer here in New England.
We started the weekend in the 90's and it's currently in the 50's.
