Thumbs up How do you, or your +1 decorate?

How well do you or your +1 decorate your home? What's your style? I know tastes change over the years. I've gone through a few style changes since we bought our home 24 years ago

I think I know my style, a bit traditional, maybe a touch of contemporary here and there, but not much.

Though it takes me a while to decide, I find I have no problem with furnishings, paint colors, bedding, but have trouble finding the right accessories, art, lamps etc. to finish off the room. I don't like clutter, but I like the house to look like a home.

I'll find something that I really like, like the print in the art thread, then have a hard time finding other "stuff" to fit in.

What about you?

I spend all my money on booze and hoes -- no wait - on my car!

I have hated where I lived the last decade and never put much effort or budget into decorating. Would not have made a difference how I felt about either place

Now I am moving into somewhere nice I have a feeling it will be time for a new slipcover, comforter and a few other things that are kinda crappy around here

The phrase tug-o-war comes to mind.

I have an idea of how I'd like thing sot be and so does Barb.
I've more or less given up.

I'm lucky there. Rick cares NOTHING about home decor. Pink polka dots on our bedding would not disturb him at all.

I've always favored spitoons, but for some reason they've been banished. HPH

I guess we are lucky. We seem to agree on most everything when it comes to decorating. As an example, in 2001 we were in a clock store in Germany (The House of 1000 Clocks), and were browsing individually. After a while, we both focused in on the same clock, (out of the 1000's there), had it shipped to us, and it is now hanging in our dining room. (A very contemporary clock). Our style is definitely contemporary, except for a few pieces we have displayed that were from my mother's estate.

My wife's a barn girl at heart (although she grew up in the city) and I pretty much do it all. We have gone through a few different phases over the years.

Where she shines is holidays. She has so much trinkets and trash for every occassion it sometimes drives me nuts but at least it's not year round. Right at the moment leading up to the front porch we a black cat that lights up and changes colors, and on the porch we have a witch on a broom hitting a pole (with a spot light on it), and a ghost that lights up and drops down making sounds, another ghost on the door itself, and some kind of pumpkin hanging towel on the back of it. All that before you get into the house, where there is something on every table, window, mirror, shelf, etc. She even takes down the pictures and replaces them with some kind of halloween picture or craft. Oh well, only for a little over a week and then we can bring out the Thanksgiving stuff, and then the big one.... after that.

Our house is done in a country theme with absolutely ZERO help from me other than "Hang it right there" tasks and such. Personally, I would like the house done in a tropical theme, but that doesn't really go with an Idaho house does it.

You decide...I call it Mediterranean architecture with contemporary design.
