I wish that were true, but unfortunately I've seen that same ambiguity in the law in other states come back to bite someone in the arse. There have been a number of cases where the shooter wasn't charged with a crime, but ended up being sued (successfully in too many cases) by the "victim"/"victim's" family. I'd be more comfortable with a clear legal (something of an oxymoron there) definition of reasonable belief, not that I would hestitate for a nanosecond to put a 9mm/.44 in some cretin in defense of me or mine.

This should put some holy fear into the hearts of the would be perpetrators. Wild Wild West, here we come! Shoot first and ask later might not be such a terrible mantra in light of how often criminals get away with things. But force on force can be lethal for both parties. At the end of the day, who knows what the unintended consequences might be. Hmmmm.

I guess a related topic would be the beginning of armed border patrols by Minutemen looking for illegal aliens in Arizona. A recent report says they are intending to expand into Texas next. Now, they have sparked some controversy - as well as philosophical disagreements about IAs, immigration, and controling our borders. So far no guns have been fired -- a number of IAs have been reported to the US Border Patrol and picked up. Apparently the Minutemen feel that the Bush-Rove administration is, for politcal reasons, not willing to police our borders against IAs, maybe even terrorists and such. Guns are naturally going to be a part of the vigilantes'approach --- out in the West, people are used to carrying guns, and many citizens have their Concealed Handgun Licenses from their respective states. The Minutemen are not carrying rifles; only handguns -- "for their own protection". Large numbers of people seem to be more concerned about the Second Amendment than they are about any other segment of the US constitution.

It is amazing how the Minutemen have had some profound impact on the movement of illegal aliens into the country. Apparently it is working and we will see what happens next.

Precisely what is working? The redirection of the flow of illegal aliens to other parts of the border? At this point this is just looks like another form of NIMBYism to me.

Immigration processes and policies are a red flag to me. I think I better not participate in this one.

When I see Vincente Fox getting upset with our Minutemen, I know we are doing something right.

Minutemen--The Bush administration has "suddenly" funded 200 extra border guards in response to the Minutemen, the Mexican army is on alert, and the Federales are telling border crossers that the Minutemen will shoot them if they try to go up North, so try crossing from a different area . They're only watching a 20 mile area, but it's pushing this huge problem to the national stage. I wish them the best of luck.

If there's one thing that Bush is terribly wrong about, it's lax border security. I really don't care if the same amount of people enter the U.S., but for criminy sake, make them come in legally!

As for Florida's new gun laws, lets hope it catches on.
