Horatio's Drive, America's first road trip
Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson married into the family fortune of the Paine's Celery Compound, a cure-all that was made of 20% grain alcohol. On a whim he decided to be the first person to drive an automobile across the country, from San Franciso to New York. In 1903 there were only 150 miles of paved road.
I just read the book and watched the program on DVD, both were available at my library. Both are a good time.
Dr. Jackson named his Winton auto the Vermont. A newspaper clipping shows that one reporter called it the Go-Like-Hell-Machine which I think I will adopt as the name for my S2K.
