Honda's $9.000 S2000 seats and
Legal Bill. In your well-informed opinion, is the Honda Corporation responsible for the creation and perpetuation of the black market that clearly threatens our seats and tops? If so, could a class action [suit] serve to remunerate those of us who have had our tops slashed and or seats stolen?

This must be a west coast phenomenon.....not aware of much problem here in the east.
Maybe I live in a suburban bubble but would be interested to hear from Metro NY, etc.

From time to time this has been a problem in almost all areas. Seats have been stolen and tops have been slashed in NYC Metro. I have a set of seat locks on my seats, and I suggest that everyone do the same.

Why would Honda have any responsibility for the creation of the black market in tops and seats? Are you suggesting that the high price that Honda charges for replacements is what has caused the theft and therefore by definition Honda has caused the thefts? I'd think if that was the case you'd also be able to include services like e-bay in your class action for providing the black market with a place to fence the stolen merchandise.

A while ago there was a rash of seat thefts in all areas. One of the members Kodokan_4 (I'm not sure if that's how he spells it) offered seat locks as part of a group buy. What they are, in essence, is replacement front screws for the front two screws of each seat. Instead of a traditional bolt head they have slots that require a key, similar to the key's used on wheel locks. Though no guarantee against seat theft, they offer some protection.
I believe he makes this group buy available every so often.

I don't see how Honda can be held responsible for the actions of others. Individuals decide that they want the seats by crime rather than by obtaining them legally. There are many things in the world that I would like to own but cannot afford...that doesn't mean that I should go out and steal it and hold someone else or entity responsible for creating my desire for the product liable.
If that were true, with the Christmas season coming, the creator of the next new hot item will be facing many law suits.
FYI, the black market has nothing to do with THE DARK SIDE.
