..... If used with the many of the current TVs it will will give you the most film-like picture available for TV.
......... For the new HDTVs, Blu-Ray is a real treat.

I hope that you both enjoy many hours of watching movies in your new "home theater".
I am looking forward to seeing it at your MWG. Should we bring popcorn?

I got a Blu-Ray player and appropriate (HDMI) connectors and so on a while back, and, yep, the picture (and sound) quality is remarkable.
Of course, with more capacity on those BR disks comes more crap, including "previews" that go on forever. The only way I've figured out so far to get past them is to fast forward -- the menu buttons are disabled during the advertising.
Any better suggestions? I have to say, it's extremely annoying to buy expensive equipment and software (the disks) and then be forced to watch extended advertising. HPH

As I recall, it's mainly the Disney ones (my BR collection is in its infancy), or at least they're the worst.
Fast-forwarding (or paging) past the advertising gets you to the movie, at which point the menu system works again. It's starting from the beginning (load, wait, play) that brings this automated crap up. This is one of those Sony players (the second-level one with "350" in its model number -- I'm not home so I can't check) -- perhaps it's the player, but I'm thinking it's the software. Grump, grump. HPH

All I have, at this moment, is a rental of 2001 which actually started at the beginning of the movie, but I have a couple of Disneys on order from Amazon. I'll give the check when they come and see if I can find an alternative to the fast forward.
Cars in Blu-Ray should be quite good, I hope.

Now that doesn't surprise me. I have seen this with standard Disney DVDs as well.

I got in the habit of throwing the movie in and letting it run for a while to get past all of the locked feature commercial crap in the front then resetting to the start.
