Help with fluorescent light fixture?

Be very careful. Do you have a voltage tester of any kind? If your house is wired properly power to the fixture should be connected to the black wire on the ballast. The white wire should be connected to the neutral. If the transformer is properly grounded, the white should be at ground.

^Just reading that makes me want to call an electrician. I'm not rushing into anything here. Thank you for your concern. I'm not into getting zapped.

Good idea. I would hate to see sporting an extremely curly, smoking hair do.

I have a really nice electrician, Bill Wheeler, who's did my outside lighting, put up a crystal chandelier and a ceiling fan. I just got off the phone with him. I'm taking back the T12 fixture I bought, and trying to return the bulbs, that I already opened. He'll be putting in the new T8 fixture. Don't know when but he'll get to it. Sometimes I get so cheap I forget that I need to call in the expert on some things. This is one of those times.

Glad you called in the pros! I believe we are all cheap about certain things, regardless of income, but sometimes calling in a professional is the cheapest/safest way out.

Rick will work on minor electric "stuff", as well as small plumbing jobs. It it looks like it's a PIA I call in the pros. Painting sounds like a simple task, but we both sux at it because we dislike it so much. So when I need a room painted, I call a guy. Yes, it costs more, but it's not like we paint our rooms every year. That reminds me, almost time to re-paint the bathroom.

^I hate painting too. Won't go there.

When our son moved out, we re-did his room. Our painter/wallpaper guy wasn't available when I wanted to do the room. So Rick painted the ceiling and he and I painted the woodwork. The walls had wallpaper at the time and Rick and a friend put up new wallpaper. I was never happy with the painting job we did on the woodwork. The next time I had the painter guy at the house, I had him re-paint the woodwork. We've not painted since.
