Default Hats

I wear pretty strong prescription glasses, so I can't easily wear sunglasses when driving with the top down. I still need something to keep the sun out of my eyes, though. So far, I've been wearing a plain cap, but as it only has a two inch brim, and only in front, it isn't entirely satisfactory when the sun is low or goes to the side when I turn.

So what's the right hat to wear when driving with the top down? My wife has some beautiful broad brimmed hats but I don't think the flower decorations would look quite right on me. I have a bowler, but it seems like that might be a bit too formal for most occasions - plus I'm not sure it would stay on.

Come on, Warren....you're kidding, right

A standard good quality baseball type hat is the perfect solution. A stiff & long visor ( ) can be pulled down to allow vision...even when driving directly into the

My favorite is one that was given out at the 2003 Mazda Rev It Up AutoX program I also have a Honda S2000 logo one, but the quality is not so great

[note to Legal Bill: See....I don't boost everything that's a Honda ]

Jerry,

I have one of those hats from the 2003 Mazda Rev It Up ( Washington, DC event), as well. I may have been more impressed with the hat than the M6. What did you think of it?

Matt, I drove the 4 cyl 2-3 times thru the course, but it was my first AutoX experience.....so I would have had fun in an MPV

Seriously, I can't remember much about the M6 itself....although I want my wife to look at the wagon version when we're shopping in January 06 I remember spending more seat time in the RX-8 samples on display....also MazdaSpeed tricked out stuff

Warren

I picked up a red canvas baseball type cap at the Gap last spring. It works perfectly. The thing that appealed to me the most was that it was the only cap I could find without any team emblem or sporting goods logo. It's just a plain red cap. Almost impossible to find.

I was going to get an old English type Kangol cap, or even one of the poor boy type caps, but they looked better when I had my MG-TD. They look out of place in the S.

I only wear my cap about 1/2 the time in the summer. I prefer to drive without it, but I wear it when I expect to be in the sun for long periods. I do find it makes a difference on my top down drives in the winter.

Warren,

Last year at Spring Fling 04 Jonas and his wife Virginia had some hats that they LOVE for driving in the S. I do not recall where they got them but they were kind of like a combination of a Aussie bush hat and a fishing hat. Perhaps if he sees this he will post a link.

I picked up a khaki canvas baseball cap last summer after a 3 hour drive left me with a serious looking sunburn. There's an embroidered Bichon Frise head on it in respect to one of our pound puppies. As it got cooler out, I wore a leather LL Bean brimmed hat that stayed on even for the commute to an from work,

A Sherlock Holmes Deerstalker is the thing. You can let the flaps down and tie them under your chin to avoid lift-off.
