Has this country totally lost any sense of humor?

3/4ths of the "news" these days seems to be coverage of things I couldn't care less about. Whether its a joke of questionable taste told by the President on some late night show or the latest antics of the octet mom, or yet another missing and presumed murdered spouse. What REALLY makes my skin crawl is when GMA decides to interview some tragic soul who has just lost a loved one through unusual accident or bizarre crime.
Not sure if it's pat of a grieving process, but it is bizarre.
Patty here's a clip of the gaffe..

By now everyone has heard of President Obama's off the cuff remark to Jay Leno about a low bowling score.

Think of it as the paparazzi syndrome in action, extended to more than guys hiding in bushes snapping photographs.
Just like a picture of A. Jolie in her house dress with a big zit on her chin would bring a gazillion bucks from the tabloids, Presidential gaffes like this, no matter now clever or innocent, are worth their weight in gold to the media and its talking heads.
There was another one, sort of, in the 60 Minutes interview tonight, which the President wrote off to "gallows humor" but Steve Croft seemed to think was a Big F Deal. It makes it tough to have any respect for reporters of any kind.
And the irony of the Leno one is that the Special Olympics bowler -- a guy with Down's Syndrome -- who the media contacted for his reaction (which, of course, they hoped would be outrage, or something) had quite sensible advice for the President: be patient and practice a lot. HPH

When no one's around, those of us in the business can be VERY un-PC.
Even as an 18 year old, it was emotionally ravaging to work with a 4 yr old spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy.
There were many others who were similar.
But when the kids were gone the joking could be brutal, but it wasn't malice it was a coping mechanism to let off steam for the emotional toll it took to deal with the pain and suffering endured by these kids by people passionate about helping.
A good friend of mine dad had lost a leg many years ago.
his dad's favorite phrase " Hire the handicapped, there fun to watch."
Humor is how we get by day to day and people need to get over it.
The whole PC thing annoys the crap out of me anyway.
We create terms to identify a condition or situation.
BUT When that term becomes a label, it is no longer acceptable to use anymore.
Where is the logic in that?

I agree that people need to get over it. Was it a proper thing to say, of course not, but this country has gotten SO PC it's a joke in itself!

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone lightened up a bit?
At the same time, any President needs to act and speak as if the entire world is recording his words and actions. Because they are. My sister, whose son has severe cerebral palsy, was not amused at the gaffe.
