I didn’t know any Jewish people until I moved to Vt and made some Jewish friends up here and learned things here and there.

Many of my high school classmates were Jewish. I dated a few. Several had a big impact on my life, some are still life long friends.

I knew some Jewish kids while in high school and it was no big deal. We had catholics, protestants, baptists, muslims, blacks, whites and almost any other type of people you can think off (no hispanics). I was raised in a very diverse town and we all got along pretty well. As a matter of fact one of the jewish kid's father owned a business in town and every year he gave out three scholarships to the local junior college. He paid for my two years of college as a full ride! Thank you Mr. Gilford!!

Where I grew up there was a couple wealthy Jewish families within a block or two with kids my age. One was a doctor's family and I'm not sure what the other's dad did. I always had the feeling they thought they were better than the rest of us. Generally speaking their families didn't want them playing with the rest of us in our neighborhood. Not a big deal, just saying. They either were home schooled or went to private schools . . . not our public schools.

When a Jewish boy from Brooklyn marries a Chinese girl from Chinatown, NYC they figure out the perfect way to celebrate the holidays! The best of both worlds.
We actually celebrate New Years 3 times a year. What could be better?
Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas and Happy Kwanzaa to everyone.

We have a few really good Kosher (and Kosher style) Delis here in Jersey, Brooklyn and the lower East Side of NYC. This is the food I grew up on.

The other side of this story is that when I was born we lived upstairs in my grandparents home in a mostly Christian neighborhood. We lived there until I was 8 years old. I didn't have many friends to play with. Not that the kids didn't want to play with me (or my sisters) but because their parents wouldn't let their children play with Jewish kids. I was told that I was the child of the devil, and my people were the Christ killers. I didn't know what all of that meant until much later in life. Fortunately when I was eight my folks bought a house in a different neighborhood which was about 50% Jewish. I no longer had problems making friends or having kids to play with.
