Happy 4th of July
#21
Happy 4th, Y'all! We will be celebrating by visiting the 'rents for awhile, then having Red, Hot and Blue BBQ up the street from the condo, so we can walk there. The kids love their BBQ. Followed by the pool (maybe), games, and tonight, of course the fireworks over the Washington Monument. We can also see many other fireworks from the balcony, on the horizon. And it's always fun to watch everyone down below coming to the Iwo Jima Memorial to see them.
We took the kids to see the Sunset Parade at the Memorial last night. They enjoyed it. For those who don't know what that is, it's a Marine Corps tradition with the marching band and the silent drill team. They do a demonstration with rifles where no verbal commands are used. Very well done. Here's one of my fave pics I took awhile back of the sunrise. Enjoy!!

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
"The New Colossus"

Happy 4th to all my S2KI friends!!! No matter your politics, this day should always be honored by all citizens of the US.
Fly your flag proudly!

I agree. Ours is flying today; here's a shot. The wren's didn't appreciate it at first but they got over it.

Happy 4th of July everyone. I happen to be a vet and my father and his brothers served in WWII, their younger brother in Korea and my cousin in Viet Nam. We served for all to enjoy this day and everyday in freedom with our families and friends. Take a moment and say a prayer for all of those who died preserving this freedom from the Revolutionary war to the war in Iraq. God Bless America and our fallen heroes.
