Its been a few months since I started playing the guitar. Actually, my adult ed course ended just before tax season but from February to April 15th I didn't have much time to practice. After tax season I bought another book with three cds and have been teaching myself. I've learned all of the strings and I'm beginning to play chords.

I'm having a lot of fun with this. On warm Saturday and Sunday afternoons I take my guitar onto the deck and play for an hour or two.

This past week Liz and I went to Virginia Beach to visit with her sister and brother in law and then we went to Blacksburg, Virginia to spend a few days with Adam at Virginia Tech. Adam just moved out of the dorms and into his own apartment so we went to help him get set up and just to spend a few days with him.

While in Virginia Beach the four of us, just for fun, went to a pawn shop. I found an electric guitar (Fender) in what looks like new condition and bought it for $80. I also bought a headphone amp. I played it a little tonight. While I don't think that Springsteen has anything to worry about, I think I'm going to have fun with this.

I still like acoustic guitar better, but so did Dylan in the beginning!

I'm not a vintage owner which is probably why I've never seen this thread but I have been playing for over a decade so I figure I could chime in.
I was lucky enough that my parents were totally into their kids learning instruments. My parents bought me my first guitar when I was 10. I took one on one lessons for 2 years which really helped me learn the basics as well as the proper fundamentals to progress as a player. I now own 6 guitars and absolutely love playing. It's a great talent to have that will be with you forever. I graduated school with my BA last month. For a graduation gift my parents split with me a Taylor 12 string acoustic. The guitar is absolutely beautiful. My favorite genre of music is hard rock but I prefer playing acoustic like you.
Just keep at it. I give you credit for having the want To learn NOW. You'll get better everyday which is the most satisfying experience. You definitely picked the best instrument to learn

Thank you Patty. It doesn't sound kookie at all.

I wish I had started earlier, but I'll get there. I probably should take some lessons, but right now I'm trying to get good on all of the strings and master a few basic chords. After that I'll probably sign up at my local music store for some one on one lessons.

For now it's just practice, practice and more practice. I am sounding better every day.

Your Taylor 12 string must be magnificent. I have a Baby Taylor and I love it. Taylor makes great products.

I actually love two instruments, Piano and Guitar. I might've taken piano instead if there was an adult education course to get me started and if I had a piano. I do have a keyboard which would do. I do find that the guitar is much more transportable, for example, I can easily take it outside and sit and play. I'm not at all unhappy with my choice.

Congratulations on your graduation. What school did you graduate from and what was your major?

Feel free to drop into Vintage any time. We welcome pre-Vints. Thanks for your comments.

Hey MBH, I went to CSULB my first year of college! I was placed in classes I was not ready for and did terrible, so I volunteered for the draft. After two years with Uncle Sam I did a year at a Junior College, then finished my Business degree at CSU Fullerton.
Got out of Southern California the day after graduation. Hope you get where you want to go in life.

Rob, at Long Beach State I was put in Intermediate Accounting. Can you imagine taking that class, never having had even a bookkeeping class? They were talking consolidations, and I had no idea which side a debit was on.

Consolidations were hard enough even when you thought you knew what you were doing. I can't imagine how you handled it.

Good luck in the job market. Have you got anything lined up? Back here in the east recent graduates are having a tough time finding work. I hope it's better in Cali.

Come on, Dean, even we engineers know that debits belong on the window side, and credits on the door side.
