I have my iPad with me almost everywhere I go. I prefer it to my phone in most cases.

However, when I need to create things, manage things, etc... and not just consume information, the PC is still my go to device.

IMacs are (were) the way to go. I have one still plugging away, supplanted by newer ones, since 2007 in the shop.

Now the computer and the monitor are separate. The monitor can last forever, just get a new processor. The one I am using as I type this has a 27" Retina display that I received in late 2015.

Cosmo, in this context, PC/Mac were interchangeable. As far as the tablet and even phone have come, doing complex things in Word or Excel is painful on them.

What do you think of this one?
No gaming planned. Surfing internet, paying bills, etc.

Lenovo Lap top
So back to this question. Is this a decent laptop/buy? Keeping to the basics here....

I'd say for everyday stuff, absolutely...

My PC is a few years old with similar specs and it holds up fine, including my photo work and light gaming. I do a little streaming on it but it's otherwise my household workhorse.

I agree. It seems well suited for the uses you mentioned.

These days I use google apps instead of Office. All web browser based and everything stored in the cloud, aka Google Drive. Google has never let me down for the basic word processing and spreadsheet work I need. I think there is also an alternative to PowerPoints but I will never put together another slide presentation no matter what life throws my way.

Thanks.Trying to decide if I should purchase or wait to see if better deals pop up...though this one appears to be discounted and a good price.

Lainey, I was nice and didn't bring up Apple products. But for the record, the wife has been using an iPad since 2010. Current is a 2016 iPad Air2. Support is active but upgrades have stopped, so we are considering a new one. I have a 2022 Mac mini with a 27” LG monitor. My original 2011 27” iMac still functions using Apache Open Office; since it has security vulnerabilities, I keep nothing personal on it. We both have iPhones. No software issues with any of them... be it Apple software, or Word, Excel, etc. on my mini. I've never used my iPhone for any processing.... too small, too big a pain.

Dave, they have/had ipads, likely outdated or not enough space, and a too old PC. My son mentioned a laptop so I'm likely taking the easy (less expensive) route.

I don't do anything on my phone. I agree, too darn small. I've been happy with laptops and PC over the years, didn't think of going with Apple. I'm used to Windows though I do curse them out from time to time.
