I saw talk of this during the Nationwide Race Sat. night (crawler on bottom of screen). While I like the stability that Nascar brings to the party, I hope that they allow for the continuation of the ALMS prototype classes as opposed to the Rolex formula.
Overall, I do think that this is good for sports car racing.

And that is my fear. Rolex/Nascar sports cars are ugly, boring, and out of line with the world of sports car racing, and did I mention ugly. The Frances still think that they understand every kind of racing, just ask all of the track owners that expanded their capacities to accommodate the "crowds" of the 90s. I think there are more tracks than just Dover that can't fill the stands for a major event.
Panoz and Atherton , Bill France and the rest of the "family" But that's just my opinion.

I am not a fan of Bill France either. I only watch NASCAR when they race at road courses. However, I do watch both Grand Am and ALMS races because I love road racing. I hate seeing road racing split like it is now. Each series has events on some great tracks and not-so-great tracks. Each series fights for tv, media attention, sponsors, money, top drivers, etc. I hope this can propel sports car racing into one really great series on great tracks where we can see Ford, GM, Porsche, Ferrari, Audi, etc. showcase cars and talent. Perhaps we could see some of the truly great NASCAR driver's coming into the new series which might not be as demanding 'time' wise. Several of the top drivers have shown great talent on road courses and expressed their desire for it. Could things go the opposite way? You bet. France could kill the really good stuff we've seen between BMW, Corvette, etc. Time will tell. As for ugly race cars..... I'd have to disagree on that one. Frankly, I don't see a big difference between the two series when it comes to the appearance of the speciality built racers when comparing the hard top versions.
