okay I will take your word for it, I know the crash of flight 261 was a serious event related to improper maintenance. I was sure there were other accidents, unless I am confusing them with a different airline.

Not that it diminishes the tragedy but that was nearly 25 years ago. I'm sure it's a lot safer than driving the 401 to Toronto.

I know the frequent fliers all say that, but I will drive when I can. I refuse to be a passenger in vehicles because I don't trust anyone's driving but mine. I have 40+ years of driving on the 401 and accident free - every kind of weather condition possible, 4 days per month, it must be several million kms. In winter all of the 4wd vehicles and rwd pick up trucks end up in the center median ditch. In all weather conditions the truck drivers who fall asleep end up in the right side ditches, and many tip over on the on-ramps to the highway. We have the worst truck drivers in the world here, most of the "new" ones have found their licenses in cracker jack boxes.

With my own family we did road trips to Florida for 13 years in a row - always driving. Starting north in Ontario and ending up as far south as Key West (southernmost point). Most trips were about 4,000 kms of driving as we did lots of exploring along the route.

My father refused to fly his entire life, he was a driver. He drove to Florida for 40 years for his vacations (Daytona Beach was his favourite place on earth lol), and he took us kids with him every year. Some years he would go twice a year.

I’ve done the drive to Florida twice from Rhode Island. I’m planning to go this spring trying to decide if I want to drive or fly.

Smashed out another 230 feet of fencing over the weekend. The ground was rock solid since we've had no rain of any note for about a month, so it was a great workout.

My wife won't do the trip anymore as it is hard on the back - 22 hours total drive for us one way. When our son turned 15 he told us he didn't want to go on vacation with us anymore , lol, so we stopped at that time. We have travelled to many places around the world for our vacations but I have to say those Florida road trips were some of my favourite vacations. On each trip we planned stops at so many interesting places, so we seen so much during those 13 years of travelling to Florida, we saw something new every year and took different routes. We loved it but it won't happen again. If you have a bad back or legs or knees driving that much may not be best, and with flying being so cheap in the US you aren't saving much by driving, especially if you break it up over 2 days and a hotel room is needed.

Tim Hortons in Canada has a Roll Up the Rim contest a few times per year where they give away prizes. On each purchase you get a chance to roll up a rim and opportunity to win a prize. Most prizes are coffees or donuts, some camping gear, and a few bigger prizes, the grand prize is a vehicle.

This morning I stayed home from work as I am battling a cough and cold and feeling terrible. My wife and I went to our local Tim Hortons to get a coffee and some food rather than doing it at home. I got a roll up the rim contest opportunity, upon playing the game it said that I have won a VW Electric Vehicle (SUV). I filled out the prize claim and it was already accepted. Volkswagen Canada is supposed to contact me for a June delivery date. This is so weird as I never win anything, but I desperately need a vehicle like that. I don't know much about EV's and never owned a VW in my life.

When we went to see our spiritual medium in January as we do a few times per year. At that time she told us to keep an eye out for some anniversary numbers, the spirits were showing her some anniversary numbers, and confetti, she said confetti anniversary logo numbers was clearly being shown to her. The Tim Hortons app I played today had the 60th Anniversary numbers, as a big logo on the site and at the coffee shop. It is their 60h anniversary and they have big 60 numbers all over the place at their stores and on the app for Roll Up the Rim. When I rolled up the rim (electronically on their app) the prize showed up with a bunch of confetti all around the winning announcement. Our medium also referenced an electric vehicle plant that is being built 1 km from my home. We didn't know why she was talking about that construction site it was bewildering to us at the time. But VW is building the biggest North American automotive factory one km from my home, which is for the production of electric vehicle batteries. I am sorry if this sounds crazy but this is too much of a coincidence. Since we left our medium visit my wife and I have been looking for anniversary numbers all over the place, and confetti, and wondering why she was fixated on talking about the VW electric battery plant during our visit. This is crazy shit, sorry if I come across as crazy but it is what it is , and you can't make this stuff up. We still have a recording of the medium visit to confirm all this craziness.

I am in shock and totally nervous about all this today. Normally I am very skeptical about stuff like this as we never win anything. I made a joke to my wife that maybe we are getting a small diecast model instead of a real car, lol, that would be more like my luck. But this is directly from Tim Hortons and it all seems legit, I can't see them denying this as the claim has already been accepted this morning as I submitted the claim immediately. I don't know much about the VW electric SuV, I think it is called ID4. The one allocated to me is the grey colour, for a June delivery. I have to check it out more closely. They also give 4 years of free charging - up to 1000 kw hr/ units ? Vehicle value is $62k Cdn, they pay for all taxes too (whew , the tax bill would have been pretty high)

That's my news for today.

We used to drive to Naples FL. For 16 years. We rented there for 2 months. After being rear ended by a distracted driver that totaled my car my back couldn’t take that long drive anymore. We plan to fly down this year and rent a car. I just turned 80 and cannot put up with the crazy drivers we encountered when we drove. Less stress and only a 2.5 hour flight.
