Default Good idea or some crazy guy talking, British Cars

I posted this on the S2KCA, but for those that don't go there. My wife & I just got back from a trip to Scotland and Ireland, Cammie and I would like to go back and really visit and really check out the sites and country. So I was thinking maybe a 6 month visit after I retire, but renting a car for 6 months would be costly. I love old british cars and have worked on many and restored a 73 TR6, so I was thinking about restoring another TR6 as a right hand drive car. Then shipping it over to England and using it for 6 months, then selling it. Right now, avg nice TR6 sell for about $6,000.00-8,000.00 in US and in England for about 6,000.00-9,000.00 Pounds or $9,000.00-13,500.00 ($1.50 to the Pound). My 73 TR6 I did, not counting my labor, I made a little money.

So my thought is that I would buy, restore the car over the next 4-5 years and then I could cover the cost of the car, shipping and maybe part of our trip and have a fun car to drive for the 6 months. If the cost of the $ falls to the Pound, then my gain could be better and of corse the other could be true.

Doing a restoration with the idea of making a profit is always risky. Very often it is the buyer and not the seller that comes out ahead.

Interesting idea none-the-less. I copied it and forwarded it to a very good firend and MG owner (MGA, MGB V8, etc.) from UK who lives/works in the US but travels back to the UK and around Europe on business all the time. If and when he answers I'll post it.

So, Coop - where in Texas are you? I have a couple of Triumphs and know a lot of the TR (club-affiliated) people in Texas.

I think it would be a very cool idea. I would be afraid that I would fall in love with the car and not want to sell it after I was done with it on the trip.

If I add in my time, there is zero way to make money on this. So not counting my time,if the dollar is weak enough to the pound, there is a good chance of coming out ahead.
