Wonder what the effect of bank closures will do to it? There are 2 now. Any thoughts? Do you own gold or other metals?

Nope, no gold or other metals. Vanguard has always discourage it as an investment. Be balanced, be diversified, think long-term, and tune out the noise. Don’t feel compelled to look at the prices every day.

Most importantly, have a portfolio that allows you to sleep well every night no matter what's happening.

I received no compensation for my free investment advice.

It seems like you can't avoid a major financial shake-up every 10 years or so in today's world, there is always a new scam coming around the corner to replace one that has passed. I've been out of the market for the past year, I will gladly take my meager 5% gain until such time as I feel safe jumping back in, in about 1.25 years. Inflation won't be kind to me but I want to preserve my capital.

I'm just hoping the recent bank failures do not have a cascade effect.

This had started to some extent, some banks in Europe and Canada are also affected. But one good thing is that oil prices dropped as a result. Thankfully the US taxpayer is going to be on the hook for this so some bailout is eminent according to Biden. He tried to settle fears on this quickly by making an announcement.
