Genetics are sort of like a grab bag, you never know what you'll get.
One of the traits I got was a predisposition to high cholesterol.
The good news is I'm heterozygous, meaning I only inherited the gene from one parent.
Had I been homozygous, I would have been dead for a long time as few live out of their teens.
If their is a cholesterol lowering drug, I've been on it and tolerate very few.
over the last 6-7 years a number of drugs called PCSK9 inhibitors have hit the market.
These are injectable which make the liver remove cholesterol more effectively.
A year or so ago they came out with an injection called inclisirin you only get twice a year instead of every other week. My pincushion belly really appreciates that.
I was just reviewing my Medicare billing since it had messed up. I made a remarkable discovery.
The inclisirin is only offered as a doctors office shot. The billing for the shot showed $20,038.06 and that's for one of the two shots.
Yikes. Medicare covered it but wowza.

I wasted 40 minutes this morning trying to find out my premium for my AARP Medicare Supplement Plan G, this morning. It's nice that it's going up from $150.92 to only $157.77 from January to May 2025.
My Prescription Drug Plan D with AARP Medicare Rx Walgreens from UHC (PDP) is going to go from $69.70 to $104.70, up $35 per month. I think that works out okay in the long run because of the change in the deductible.
In any case, I think I'm still better off paying for the AARP Plans G and D than I was when I was paying out of pocket for Kaiser.
