[QUOTE=S1997,Oct 23 2006, 01:21 PM] OT, but I just noticed glancing at my Avatar that tomorrow is my 3 year BD on Vintage...

Patty, once I unpin this thread, I'll replace the Watkins Glenn meet link in my "What's Vintage about" thread with a link to these pics. Since you took the time to put names on all the pics, it will help folks remember who is who, especially any newbies.

Technically, ' Patty' is a hypocoristic name for us...
Just who are you calling a hypocorist?! I'll have you know I practice everything I preach. Damned snooty linguists.

Well, thanks to Jim and Dean, I just returned from a trip to dictionary.com

Here's what I found:

This was a huge help in putting names and faces with screen names! Thank you Patricia! I didn't get to actually meet everyone but now even some of the people I didn't meet I know their face and name. And for anyone who didn't get to meet me - just look for the 'barely vint' gal washing her Silverstone

I have been fairly "vocal" here over the years that "there is a time and a place for everything". I have no idea of your background or level of driver training, so please consider this an open letter to the community as a whole. As this is a broad statement that is NOT directed at you.

As members of the S2Ki.com community we have all learned of people that have crashed their cars and have been lucky enough to "walk away" from pretty horrific accidents, as well as those who have not been that lucky. As there have been several members of S2Ki that have died in the past year.

With that stated: I know to some of you (Vintage members) I am going to sound like a "broken record". Other younger members might be scratching their heads, asking the question: "Whats a record"? Computer records do not get broken, they get corrupted. But if I expanded on being "corrupted" this post would wind up in the Politics Sub-Forum.

I encorage everyone that has the "Need for Speed" to attend some formal high performace driver training. It is VERY important "IMHO" for people to understand "vehicle dynamics" at speed. The next best think is to do a few track days to learn in a safe environment how your car responds at higher speeds.

This is not intended to be a lecture. It is intended to make one think twice about your knowledge level. For example: When one doubles one's speed one has to double one's braking power. When one doubles the vehicle weight (mass) one must quadruple the braking power. Then one must consider weight distribution and the effect that it has on loading and unloading the suspension. Not understanding this dynamic can cause what is known as the "classic J hook" spin out.

I hope that I do not get flamed for posting this? I do mean it in the most constructive of ways.
Hi Matt,

I've had no official driver training until last Friday Except following a bunch of crazy people at S2000 meets that is I was just SOOO close to finally seeing triple digits it was a tad disappointing.

Guess I have something to look forward to next season, besides more track days. My #1 goal when I drive is not to hurt my car which I figure includes not hurting myself or other people or their property.

No offense taken on my part

And yeah - I remember records -- and 8 tracks. I still have one that goes in my 1980 Prelude at car shows to remind people that an optional 8 track player was available with the AM/FM radio!

Patricia,

I'm happy that someone does. I haven't been posting much since I was shunned for the Nor'Easter photo caption thread.

Thanks for taking these pics and picking up the slack with the "other" thread.

Matt, you were not "shunned." Yes, there was a disagreement. No one expects everyone to get along all of the time.

Let's move on.

Patricia,
I'm one of those that look but don't post much, I really enjoy seeing what I missed. You sure have a knack for remembering names. Thanks for taking all the photos and captions.
Levi
You give me too much credit. I made the name tags and I hand wrote everyone's names on them. When I posted photos, lots of the time I would look at their name tags, if they were visible, to figure out who it was.

I guess people look even if they don't post.
I took a quick look this morning, then had to run out.

Awesome photos, Patricia! The time that you spend uploading must be horrendous... We all really appreciate it though!

I didn't realize that you did so much on Sunday. I visited Falling Water a couple of years ago, and loved it. They were just getting started on major renovations, though. Probably done by now, huh?
