Default Gearbox Fluid Praise

I've been using Honda Manual Transmission fluid in my gearbox since new. I just changed it for the 5th time in 33,000 miles; so as you can see I've always been running on fresh stuff. This time I switched to ACDelco Synchromesh Transmission Fluid, which has been recommended by others. Woow, the improvement was immediate. My tranny was like butter before and now it's like hot butter - really, really smooth. I highly recommend it. Very impressive stuff.

I had RL MT-90 in mine, and found it to be stiff when cold. And the GMSMFM was the best so far, until I found some "specitaly formulations" MTL- P and I now have about 700 miles on it and its the best I have ever used. However SP is now dead, and no one knows when they will be making any more.

I think it is a superiror fluid. They need to be changed every time you track the car, IMHO. It definitely improved te shifting.

If you don't track it, I would think it is good for 50K miles.

I noticed an immediate improvement using the GM synchro and have not noticed loss of effectiveness after 8 k miles.

I've been using the GMFM and it's better when new. I just switched to the
New&Improved Honda MTF.

I'm going to buy a container for catching your discarded tranny fluid and one for catching Rob's discarded crankcase oil. Should keep my new S in great shape for years to come!

You're probably right. The engine oil was really really black - more than I would have thought - but the tranny stuff looked like new when draining.
