Gardening! It's good for you!
Rick has 10 green thumbs. I too like to garden, but I'm mostly a helper. I love playing in the dirt, and as it happens, it's good for one's health too!
A recent study in the Netherlands suggests that gardening can fight stress even better than other relaxing leisure activities.
After completing a stressful task, two groups of people were instructed to either read indoors or garden for 30 minutes. Afterward, the group that gardened reported being in a better mood than the reading group, and they also had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
"We live in a society where we're just maxing ourselves out all the time in terms of paying attention," says Andrea Faber Taylor, Ph.D., a horticulture instructor and researcher in the Landscape and Human Health Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Speaking of which, my +1 really wanted to grow "just one" of a specific variety of plant. Just to see how it looked and if his green thumb would be successful. I discouraged him on that one. Maybe I should have done otherwise. Life is short.

On another note look at what's happened to the Colorado forum since they legalized it. I overheard two guys in the New England forum discussing it.
One says to the other
"What's happened to the Colorado Forum?"
The other says
"It's fallen a pot"

I would love to be able to get out and play in the little dirt I have but my back hurts so much when I'm done that I've learned it isn't worth it. I was cutting back brush on the dirt road to my place in Kennedy Meadows on Monday. My back still aches. That had to be done though.

I hear you on the back issue, Patty. I was pretty stiff and sore after our spring planting. Back sore, hands cramped up too. BUT after not doing it for two seasons, I was ready and had the Advil by my side.

^Captain A FTW! I pre-medicate so I can stand up after doing things that I know are going to hurt.
