Future of America's auto industry

I predict that they're all going broke.
Then parts will be in short supply.
We'll have to start combining things to create our dreams.
I kind like this one.

Is there a future for the American Auto Industry? I'm not trying to be flippant, but they have not made a car I would buy in at least 25 years.
Unless this changes, who will buy them?
In 1983, when I came off the company car program and was looking to buy my own first new car, I looked at everything out there. I bought an '83 Prelude. My family had always owned Pontiacs, and had recently switched to Mercurys, so I investigated all of them very thoroughly. The quality and value of that '83 car has kept me looking Honda-first ever since.
Can the US industry surpass Honda in quality and value? Anything is possible, but they will have to show me first.
