JOC... has anyone known a person to get a serious attack on a Mac --- to the point the computer wouldn't boot-up? I haven't had any of my PCs due that lately. However, back in the Win XP days --- several of my computers had to be taken out to the backyard and shot.

So you didn't have a DOS 6.22 boot disk and know how to use fdisk?

Its okay on my laptop, but I'm not putting it on the desktop. I'm not uber crazy about it, but it works ok. The desktop has 8.1 and it seems to do fine. I like it better than 10.

I'm still with Val. Updated the laptop, not the PC. I find Windows 10 a bit of a hog and you have to watch which boxes are checked/unchecked when installing, or it passes all your info around the entire interweb.

Not really but Microsoft does have a whole lot of info on sites you visit and the keystrokes you used to get there and who your friends are. There is software available that will remove most of the tattle-tale info gathering.

Just upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 on my home desktop. The upgrade went smoothly with only minor irritations. If you are stuck in Windows 8, 8.1 or Vista it is a big improvement. After years of enjoying XP, Windows 7 was a bigger shock but it grew on me over time. I would say that Windows 10 is more user-friendly than any recent Windows flavor, once you adjust to the changes.

But I made another change to the desktop that made a huge difference. I added a Samsung solid-state drive (SSD) and moved everything to it. Now my hard drive is only used to back up the SSD. The performance improvement is dramatic. And SSDs are getting pretty cheap. Highly recommended.

Started to upgrade Kathy's laptop to Win 10 last night, and all I got all night was the "starting download" screen.... was still spinning this morning.

Went thru Windows update, and got all new updates (had done this yesterday and thought I had them all).... rebooted... tried again, same problem.

Time to do a little reading... looks like a number of people have had this problem.

4/9/16 10:21 Edit

Going the media creation tool route.... so far Win 1o downloaded, going thru the install now.

4/9/16 1:39 Edit

Everything installed fine.... now to mess around with settings.

So far, it appears to be very similar to Win 7 except for the tiles.... can get to most of what was readily available by just hitting start, then typing in what you want.. ex control panel... and there it is.
