Does anyone make/eat quinoa? I made some and like the crunch but it's bland. I added some to refried beans with cheddar cheese, hot sauce and sour cream, and that wasn't bad.

I’ve had it a few times it is bland but healthy. Two ways you can handle it, add some spices and it will taste a little better and still be healthy or add cheese and butter and it will taste a lot better but not be as healthy.

I've had it in some take out food bowls, the first few bites seem great, then the blandness and texture kind of gets to me and I can never eat it all even with it having flavouring on it. It is weird as I tend to eat everything and anything.

I like farro which is comparable. Not gluten free, though, if that matters. Takes awhile to cook. I cook it in my rice cooker. For whatever amount of farro, use three times water. I make a yummy Greek farro salad with it.

I went to visit my mom today and they loaded us up with Italian flat beans from their garden, the flat beans taste really good compared to ordinary green beans.

We also got a couple heads of radicchio lettuce which is a bit bitter but goes well when mixed with other lettuce in salads. They load us up with basil too, so looks like we are having pesto sauce tonight with gnocchi .

Barb buys a rice w quinoa mix. I'm not adverse to it but it doesn't generate a lot of enthusiasm from my palate.

I have read an interesting tidbit about native areas of production for quinoa.
The surge in popularity spiked prices for the grain at the expense of low income locals ability to buy it.
Overtime the injected revenue helped lift the area out of poverty.

Well, I had one of the best meals ever from the Lebanese deli today. It is a Tues special, lamb with artichokes. Came with rice and salad. Really, really delish!! Could not eat it all so have some leftovers. Also bought some regular stuff, so we will be well fed for the next few days.

One interesting note…apparently there is a shortage of green beans (the flat ones). There was no loubieh today, which is a bean and tomato side dish and one of my faves. So I got something called m’saka which is eggplant, chickpeas, tomatoes and a couple other things. See how I like that.

I had a craving for fried chicken today, though I tend to avoid fried food in general as I get heartburn from fried food.

I never had Popeyes before so I got two pieces to try out today for the first time. I thought Popeyes was terrible. I took a couple bites and then tossed it out , I could not eat a third bite. I then went next door and picked up KFC, which I preferred. It is still crappy food in general but sometimes you just get a craving for it. We don't have much of a choice here when it comes to fried chicken, just those two brands, there is one other called Mary Browns but it is harder to find with a low number of locations. After I eat fried chicken I tend to regret it.
