My Dad grew up in Maine where Saturday night was Hot dogs and beans.
The 230 mile ride home on Sunday for a family of 5 was typically done with all of the windows down.
But damn they were good beans, kidney and navy in separate pots. I'd always argue for the onion in the bottom.

I like baked beans, just not the dire affects.

When we have vacationed in Antigua they serve baked beans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (as side dishes), I made sure to get a tasting at each meal.
My wife makes a Portuguese dish of beans in sauce, using red kidney beans, also very good. My mother made an Italian dish growing up using white kidney beans in a tomato sauce, heavy on the oregano, pretty damn good too. We love our beans.

I recall an older gentleman was asked his secret to living past 100 years of age, he said that he ate baked beans three times a day, lol. I figured they must have some health benefits , and many people say that about legumes.
