It's chicken gumbo time again today, by special request. I made everyone's favorite holiday dish yesterday for the +1's art class party - green bean casserole! It went fast.

We've gotten hooked on sunflower bread from Fresh Market's bakery. YUM. We particularly like that the loaves are small and the individual slices are about the size of one slice of normal bread. I'll probably make some simple chicken salad today and we'll have chicken salad sandwiches.

Yum on both dishes you've whipped up. I'm rather weary of the ongoing cooking every day thing. Christmas Eve I'm going to Fresh Market for a preordered dinner of turkey with all the fixings, cranberry relish, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn souffle, a small ham, rolls, chocolate pie and pumpkin pie. Daughter and bf are coming over for dinner and then we'll have leftovers on Christmas Day. I MAY fix a macaroni and cheese casserole but I'm still iffy on all that food. First time in my life I've had someone else cook my Christmas food. Just not in the mood for cooking this year.

I might just have to have some more green bean casserole soon, too. I'm guessing we will be eating something other than turkey for Christmas. Maybe meatloaf or porkchops. We are going out to dinner tonight and tomorrow night, so no cooking until the day.

The humdrum bore of everyday meal preparation has become quite the nag. I hate spending so much of my time in the kitchen either cooking it, cleaning up from it or planning what's next. Gets old. We get tired of the same foods so it is a constant struggle. I've even been thinking of getting a delivery program started once a month for at least some of our meals. Have been looking for gourmet meal delivery programs and see there are a few out there. Not sure yet, but it may spice things up a bit so we'll enjoy our same ole same ole a little more. I love food and I enjoy cooking, but it does become rather dull when it is an everyday all day kind of thing.

Our Christmas tradition has become having filet minion wrapped in Bacon.
We buy a whole tenderloin at BJ's ( local big box warehouse retailer) and cut it ourselves.
Prep time is trivial as is cooking effort. broil 3 minutes, flip, 3minutes, flip, 2 minutes, flip, 2 minutes, serve.
The best part is when we decide it's time to eat, 20 minutes late the meal is on the table.

Sounds delish...we don't eat much beef, but we went out to eat two nights in a row last week and I ate beef both nights - a ribeye one night and beef brisket the other. I'm not sorry. The middle eastern place that has the steak puts some spices on it that are to die for. The brisket doesn't rival the brisket from Lambert's in Austin (gotta get back there!!!!!), but it was OK.

Another beef night last night...this time prime rib at the very nice restaurant (1789) we went to for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner. The +1 had the Christmas goose. We are fasting for the next week, before another dinner on New Year's Eve. Five nights out to dinner in the past week!
