Fire Extingusher Recall
#11
While we are on this subject, here is a video with a good demonstration of the regular inspection a home owner can give his or her fire extinguisher. Did you think it was just about looking at the gauge? Think again. Please consider doing all of this at least once a year. Pay particular attention to the part where he turns the extinguisher over and gives it a a few taps...
If you have a good scale (no, not your bathroom scale) you can also weight the unit and compare the weight to the information provided on the label or stamped into the body of the fire extinguisher which will help you detect any leakage. Finally, fire extinguisher technicians have gauges they can use to make sure that the little tiny gauge on the extinguisher is accurate. But all of that is probably beyond the average home owner.

I have 10 fire extinguishers to check with Kidde. If you have more than six you are supposed to call them, which I just did. After trying to take my name and address, the representative had to put me on hold because of problems with her computer. After she came back it took quite a while to check all 10. The result was that six out of the ten were recalled. I was on the phone for 24 minutes.
