I thought so too but it matched my book picture exactly. It is a strange winter. Others, not me, have been spotting Snowy Owls around.

As I type we just had a female Red Bellied Woodpecker at the feeder.

Don't laugh but a week or two ago I thought the same thing and called my wife to show her. Of course she said, that's a Junco. It really did look blueish to me at least against the snow. Since then I've come across this picture of a slate colored Junco. He's number 9 on this list.

The sparrows have taken over my feeders. The only bird that they don't bother is the pair of Downy Woodpeckers that frequent the suet feeder.

Our yard has been like Disneyland, we've had dozens and dozens of flocks of all types side-by-side day-after-day.

Damn sparrows!

I've had very little bird activity with the extreme cold. The feeders are now encased in snow which will be frozen in the AM, so I asked Rick to bring in the feeders when he heads back out for snow removal. I'll let them thaw out, dump the seed and put them back out in the AM. The birds will be quite hungry when them come out of hiding.........if they do. Brutal cold temps coming in.

I have 3 feeders full of sunflower seeds. Today, the %$#&*ing blackbirds came, out of nowhere, and completely emptied them. There were still some cardinals and other birds (junkos?) ground feeding, but the blackbirds took over my, and my neighbor's, feeders. Our little Scottie, Nessa, had fun chasing them off in the snow, though.

Think we had 30+ mourning doves at the feeders today... or should I say under them?
