Val, we get our 50# bags of sunflower seeds at Menards for about $20. You may not have them in your area but they beat everyone else in ours. We usually buy at least 6 bags at a time.

We don't have Menards in our area. I do not have indoor storage space for more than 40-50 pounds. I keep the seed in the garage and it is too humid to store it more than a week or two. MOLD!!! In times of heavy feeding, I make another seed run. Forty pounds usually lasts a week to 10 days.

Well, looks like our hummingbirds have headed south. Haven't seen one in days!

I left the feeders filled with fresh feed before we left on our trip on 9/16. I came back and they were still full. I didn't see any of them around, so I took the feeders down. I'll miss them.

I also noticed I haven't seen as many of the gold finch around. I see them all year, but not so many this week. I hope they haven't left me too.

Yes, Lainey. They're arriving here and I've seen a lot of them on the feeders. I'm also having a lot of warblers -- yellow rumped and prothonotary. I LOVE those birds even though they only come to get water and play in the fountain. They do not come to the feeders.

For the past couple/weeks I've had to refill feeders every day. The migrators are dropping in to fatten up for their flights to points unknown. An absolute feast for the eyes are the little American Redstarts that flit around like butterflies. They LOVE the fountain and then dart into the nearby shrubs to gobble little insects. I could watch them for hours. I see them here from time to time but this year they've been far more prolific. Their little call is wonderful. They seem to about the same size as the Carolina Chickadee -- quite tiny. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/...an_Redstart/id

Our activity at the feeders has slowed a bit. I haven't seen much of the Carolina Wren over the summer, hopefully, he/she will be hanging out on the suet cake soon. I expect the Juncos will be back soon. It's been rather warm, so maybe they are still hanging out with Emil.

Blue Jays passing through this past week. Other than that not many birds around although we have seen them gathering and practicing for the long flight.

This was the first summer in a very long time that I put up a humming bird feeder. We had a few humming birds but none touched the feeder. Can anyone explain?
